Surprise, surprise!

Long time no see dear Smøg followers!

Today we bring some real glorious news to your eyes.
We have for you...... The finished animation!!!!
Well sort of then. Since we had little time we had to make the decision to first make a teaser, so that school can let us graduate.

Because the last video we uploaded here was such bad quality, we now put the links up to the video on Vimeo so to go there please click here.

We also have another gift for you: a special animated credits clip!
Although only two people actually worked on this school still wanted us to make this, so here you go, made this afternoon.
To see this video please click here.

For now we will give ourselfs some rest and after that our goal is to finish the trailer, which will be longer and better looking.
We know that you are a quiet public but this time we would really appreciate your feedback/opinion. So please let us know.

Last important information

Happy easter greetings dear Smøg followers!

Today we have no fancy pictures of characters or fun interviews, but we do bring the latest important information about the exposition.

The exposition will be held this thursday (april 28th).
There will be different times for different groups which has been noted before but we'll repeat it again just to make sure:
Students are allowed to come in from 12:00 to 16:00.
Companies from 17:00 to 19:00.
Family and friends may come in at 19:00 to 21:00.

The exposition will be held at our school (Grafisch Lyceum Rotterdam).
The adress for that is Heer Bokelweg 255 Rotterdam.
Our stand can be visited at the 7th floor in classroom 7160 where we stand in the farest corner.

Again, the animation will not be completely finished, we are now about half way through, so we filled the parts that aren't done yet with our animatic.

So that is the latest bit of information, we hope you know enough.

How do we do it

Hello Smøg fans!

Today we bring to you a so called "breakdown", this video will show how we build up part of a scene in a few steps.
Also, this breakdown will feauture a brand new character! Of course we will do our classic introduction interview below the video.

Q: Well hello there Sir ...?
A: Captain William Stronghold if you please.

Q: Ah so you are a captain of a marvelous seaship then?
William: Well, no not exactly, of course the marvelous part is correct, but the Pandora, that is the ship's name, is a real sky sailing beauty.

Q: Well that certainly is something new! Well as far as we've heard you are a real pirate, is that true?
William: In some way yes. But your image of pirates is clearly wrong as you think we are sailing rats looking for treasures and drinking rum all day. But that certainly is not true!

Q: So then you are a well behaving tea drinking pirate looking for...?
William: Yes I certainly do enjoy my cup of tea thank you. And in case you still don't know, we are looking for the ancient monster Sm
øg.

Q: Oh, so if I understand this correctly you have taken care of our main hero Lars?
William: Just Lars is enough really... but yes I have.

Q: And then would you also happen to have any relation to Emily?
William: I most certainly have! She is my beloved daughter! If only she would behave a bit more like her papa and not like the stereotypic kind of pirate you audience have in mind. Maybe if she still had her mother she would behave a little bit more like a proper lady.

Q: Her mother, what's that about?
William: Ah, it seems that I have drited off...I'm sorry to interrupt, but..Ehm.. tea... Ah yes, my tea water is boiling I need to check up on that. Ta!

Q: It seems out interviewee ran away! Well then until next time we meet!

Well we hope you have enjoyed this interview and the little insight we gave you on the animation progress. If you have any questions or comments then please message us on this blog.

Next time we update we will probably be giving some more information on the upcoming exposition. Remember to put it in you agenda: april 28th.

We really hope to see you all there!

Poster and expo info

Hello dear followers,

due unforeseen difficulties, we couldn't post anything sooner. We are terribly behind on schedule and we are running 80 miles per hour to get things done.
BUT! We do have something to spoil you guys with.
TADAAAAAH!

It's a poster! Print it and hang it either on your door, ceiling, bathroom door, in the kitchen or where ever else you can hang it in sight.
The format and size is a bit odd, but that's because it are the measurements our school requires for the print. Yes this will be printed professionally and used to advertise when our expo is held.
Speaking of the expo, this is held at 28th of April. Friends and family are welcome to awe our beautiful work.
Students are allowed to come in from 12:00 to 16:00.
Companies from 17:00 to 19:00.
Family and friends may come in at 19:00 to 21:00.
There is a small "but" here, we might not get everything finished in time, due several circumstances, so we'll just show what we have up until then. Of course we shall notify you guys when everything is actually finished, we shall post a youtube video, vimeo and what else more we can find, right here, in this blog.

So we hope to see you at our expo, or checking out our blog.

Sincerely, Smøg team.

Meet the hero!

Long time no see dear followers!

Well it's been a while since the last update. But of course we do have a reason for that.
The last weeks for us have been busy as hell. We had some bad reviews from the teachers, and therefore we couldn't yet start the actual animating yet.
Luckily we fixed that in a day's time and now we have permission to go and make this project work out.
So by the time we started we were already behind on schedule. And with only 2 people on quite a big project, that's no fun.
By now we are still cathing up with our delay, but we'll make it through (we hope).

The post for now contains an actual shot of the movie. It contains our main character and hero: Lars.

So let's get to know this character a little better with another short interview:

Q: What an honor to meet you, the main hero of the movie!
Lars: Ah, well thank you. But... I'm not much of a hero though, I'm still just a 12 year old kid.

Q: Who says kids can't be heroes?! Ash Ketchum was a hero!
Lars: Uhh, who..?

Q: Sorry different universe. So Lars, where did it all start, where do you come from?
Lars: For me this adventure started from the town I live in. My village has been closed in by enourmos walls for centuries, so it's all a bit back in time there.
No one was able to get out, or enter our village so we really lived isolated. They said the wall was build ages ago by someone with magical powers to keep us safe from an enormous monster!

Q: Wow an enormous monster? What do you know about that?
Lars: Oh... uh... haha I can't really tell you anything about that, that would spoil the story!

Q: Right, back to the start then, how did you ever find a way to escape from that village?
Lars: Well one day one of our goats went missing, and I was sent to search for it. I discovered a hole in the wall and stumbled through it to search further for our goat.
I did find him, but I also discovered the outer world! And that's basically how my journey started.

Q: But when you crawled through that hole, didn't you hestitate, or feel the urge to warn someone?
Lars: H-ha-hahah... well you know, I wanted to, but then I thought what uncle would do to me when he found out I wasn't busy with my job.

Q: Hmm, pretty scary uncle then. So did you meet any potential people to go on another adventure with?
Lars: Yes! At least, if they'll let me join them. But for now we haven't really found a reason to set sail again.

Q: Well Lars, I must thank you for your time, you were a way better speaker then our first interviewee.
Lars: Thanks!

So we hope you got to learn our main character Lars a little better with this.
Of course, if you would like to know more, you could always leave a question here in the comments.
Thank you for your time for now, and we hope we will be back soon with another pretty picture!

Quick update with a sketch!

Welcome back dear Smøg followers!

So here's the newest update on the project.
We have just finished our animatic and that means that the start of the actual animation process is about to start! Isn't that exiting!
We hope that from now on we can show you some more advanced work.

For this post we have a sketch of the church that will appear in the movie:

This also brings forth that our project will mainly be in 2D. BUT... there will be some 3D objects, like this church. We chose for this option since it would be more work to animate this in 2D compared to 3D.

So that's it again for now, see you next update!

First preview

Hello dear readers,

an other update from our side! Yay! -dances-
Here you have a little conceptual art of two ' new' characters. On the left we have our Hero, Lars. And on the right our only 'true' pirate, Emily.

Here they are practicing swords together. Of course Lars still needs to learn a lot. Luckily Emily will teach him all and is very patient.

That's it for now, people!

See you next update!
